Schilling, Long S.F. Tea Firm Head, Expires

Death yesterday ended the long and noted mercantile career of August Schilling, 80, founder of A. Schilling & Co.; internationally known tea and coffee firm. Schilling died at his home at Woodside, near Redwood City. He had been ill for many years. He was born in Bremen, in Germany and came to San Francisco in 1870. On September 8, 1881, with George F. Volkmann he founded the firm bearing his name. Mr. Volkmann still is the vice president.

Schilling’s wife, Mrs. Agnes Schilling, died in 1929. He is survived by four children. Carl of Beverly Hills, Rudolf, Walter and Elsa of San Francisco.

He was a member of the Bohemian and Pacific Union clubs.
